Honestly, playing a black vampire who was born a slave and now wants to use his powers to get revenge on the CSA would be a pretty cool concept. Throw in Vampire shenanigans where the Sabbat are involved with the CSA and you’ve basically got Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which was a phenomenal popcorn B movie.
But I pretty much guarantee that’s not what they were going for.
What if they are just fans of Harry Turtledove and are just neutrally exploring alternate history scenarios in the same way he did? Basically “Guns Of the South” meets “Interview With a Vampire” kind of thing?
Hell, what if Louis had just been a much more proud Louisianan even after turning?
There’s lots of ways to explore that that aren’t WISHING that they won. There was a very liberal comedic mocumentery ten years ago that explored it similarly to Turtledove but with dark absurdist humor with a focus on how absurd anyone actually wishing they had won must be. It was extremely NOT PC, but in the best possible way for driving that point home.
Turtledove’s alt history also led to some interesting scenarios down the line in the later sequels. In the union states right after the war, a large group of Russian peasants immigrated to the United States, including the parents of Lenin and Stalin, the latter of whom subsequently becomes “President Joe Steel” leading to the United Council States of America (“Soviet” literally means “Council”) after previously being president Robert Lenin’s vice president. (“Robert” and “Vladimir” mean roughly the same thing).
A War subsequently breaks out between the Communist Union and the Confederated Republic.
I’m guessing that was the tone the original GM was sold on but wasn’t how it played out.

Someone thought *you* would be pro-Confederate?
Achievements in obliviousness. Probably the closest thing to an achievement a Confederate supporter’s likely to get… unless you count consecutive generations of cousin marriage.
Am having a flashback to that strip years back where the plot hitting the gaming group is a Confederate colonel trying to reanimate his old regiment with the Black Cauldron.
I mean, I kind of want to know what they were planning on following that up with. Not because they’re gonna make any good points, but for the same reason you can’t look away from a train wreck.
I actually encountered a game like that at a convention. About the time the ST was getting done with explaining his historical rewrite in which the south never lost I was making excuses to leave.
I’m wondering if this is a reenactor who shows up to everything wearing Confederate clothing (and wants to play a Confederate vampire, struggling to adjust to modernity).
Playing as villainous side can be fun, I mean they do have Soviets playable in campaing in the old call of duty games. And if the players and game master take it tounge in cheek it can be fun for all.
But yeah, I can understand how that may sound or feel like. It’s like some one asks me to have open mind about the reds in early independemce Finland
I mean, I guess we are supposed to imply that between their previous Storyteller quitting and the whole Confederacy angle, we are supposed to assume that the player is a horrible racist. But Vampire the Masquerade can be set in historical setting and the Confederate South is a Valid setting for a Gothic Horror campaign with lots of interesting elements. It’s like reacting poorly to players who want to play Vampire Dark Ages and set it During the Inquisition. Just seems weird to completely dismiss entire time periods and locations as unacceptable.
If it’s not the historical bigots it’s the sex pests, and if it’s not the sex pests it’s the gun bunnies with small arms catalogues and worrying smiles. There are safe, sane and consensual VtM players out there… if you make your own by running it for your friends.
Oh, this can’t be good.
Yikes
At least Mike already learned to ask the Most Important Question — if the previous GM “quit unexpectedly”, find out why.
Nope, nope, nope.
Don’t want to be so open minded that your brain falls out.
They sure make great villains, those confederates. I can see why the Sabbat might recruit them. But I would not be comfortable playing it straight.

If Mike contacts Davan for some ideas, he could probably incorporate that very storyline.
At best, character concept ‘Yes, I fought for the South, but that was a long time ago and I’ve changed my views.’
But somehow I doubt that.
if it’s a villainous campaign, his views are now all kine are under him…
Deadlands had a problem like this in their first edition, but I believe that they have changed their ways for the more recent edition.
A hundred bad days make a hundred good stories, a hundred good stories make me a webcomic creator.
Mike just needs to contact Davan for some tips to break their brains in the most amusing and profitable way possible

Send him a reply, Of moving gif Of a vampire, hissing at the sunshine and slinking back into the shadows, vanishing!
(Then block his number).

*sends pics that protect ID* This is what my wife and son look like. Are you sure you want me to basically be the highest level God in your game?

I thought this was poking at the trope of the southern gentleman vampire trope that’s always kinda given me the ick.
This at all inspired by “you-know-who” from that other webcomic?

Perhaps their proposed gameworld runs in a “bad guys won and the players are the plucky rebellion” sort of format?
