quite a few of the companies that make “self driving cars” I’ve currently been forced to admit in court that… That isn’t what they do at all. somebody in a Third World country is being paid a pittance to drive the car by remote control.
This is unquestionably illegal. none of those operators are licensed to drive in the state where they are operating the vehicle, if they even have themselves a local license at all, which is apparently not a job requirement.
They’re busy playing grand theft, auto, except it’s real and your kids are in the car.
… All of which immediately makes me question whether the “robot delivery vehicles”. are running the exact same set up.

We have them on the university campus where I work. I thought they were some kind of publicity stunt or research project when I first saw one.
Gonna be honest, I’m not sure if this is better or worse than Amazon’s idea of using quadcopter drones.
